Beef & Beer for a Fellow Friendly Son

By Dan McCormick

A Friendly Son needs some help and the help requested involves beef and beer. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

On June 19, Friendly Son, John Croke, Jr., suffered a stroke while on the phone at work. It was followed by two more strokes and a heart attack due to the brain swelling. Brain surgery removed most of the clot, which caused the stroke. He spent the next week in the ICU. After another couple weeks in Rehab John is now home and beginning a long but hopeful recovery.

John has learned to walk again and is making great strides. After such a trauma one needs to relearn the simplest tasks like speaking, the alphabet, and numbers. A couple of weeks ago he managed a seven-word sentence, a major achievement.  It will be a long and difficult process but John is determined.

John's out-of-pocket—that’s after insurance—medical expenses will soon exceed $12,000 and only continue to mount. That’s a lot of money for a 28-year-old man just starting out in life.

John, Jr. is also a Son of the American Legion. His post in Fort Washington asked the family if they could have a beef and beer benefit. John, Jr. is the son of John Croke, Sr. Both are Friendly Sons.

The benefit is Saturday, September 12 from 7:00 p.m.– 11:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 10, 493 South Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, PA 19034.

Tickets are $35.00 at the door and all of the proceeds will go to the fund.
